Our first‑of‑its‑kind BESS PPA in Spain with EDP is an important milestone - Eloisa Allona

Designing tailored solutions for customers also helps deliver a more flexible energy system and requires new ways of thinking about existing assets. As Eloisa Allona, Head of Customer Origination Iberia, highlights in this post, hybrid models combining solar and battery storage will play a key role in delivering customer needs and supporting evolving energy systems. With our latest agreement with EDP, we are taking a step forward in integrating battery storage into solar projects in Spain - enhancing performance, adaptability and overall system value.

Eloisa Allona, Head of Customer Origination Iberia
The market for corporate clean‑energy buyers in Spain continues to evolve and adopt new structures, and we are delighted to have closed a new agreement with EDP to accelerate hybrid solar‑plus‑battery energy storage (BESS) solutions in the country. This is a first‑of‑its‑kind deal in Spain and an important milestone.
Hybridizing existing solar assets with battery storage is one of the most effective and scalable ways to bring much‑needed flexibility to the Spanish power system. As renewable capacity keeps growing, integrating storage becomes essential to ensure system stability, optimize energy use, and unlock additional value from existing assets. We expect 2026 to be a breakthrough year for this model, with PPAs playing a central role in enabling bankable, large‑scale hybrid projects.
Our innovative partnership with EDP positions us at the forefront of this transition. By combining renewable generation with advanced storage solutions capable of charging both from the plant and the grid, we are contributing to a more resilient, flexible, and efficient energy system. At the same time, this agreement strengthens our global positioning and highlights the importance of energy storage in designing tailored solutions for customers. We have already delivered major projects in Latin America and continue to expand this model across key markets, including Italy, Germany, and the U.S.
I am proud of the teams behind this achievement and excited for what comes next. Special thanks to Carlos Alonso Merino and Miguel García Asunción for their efforts and to Ivan Nieto Ruiz and Stefano Breda for their support in bringing this landmark deal to completion.
